As the capital city, Carson City is enormously rich in cultural heritage and cultural resources; however until now there has been very little meaningful collaboration among the areas cultural institutions in creating a vision and a plan for fully exploiting these rich and unique resources. Today, the vision of creating a Round House Cultural District may preserve the heart of Nevada's capital city.
The Carson City Library is planning for a new facility in the heart of downtown and in the epicenter of what is called the "Round House Cultural District." Within a very short walking distance currently exists a myriad of other cultural institutions including the Nevada State Museum ( a former US Mint), the Northern Nevada Children's Museum, the state capitol complex which includes a replica of the Sarah Winnemucca statue located in the US Capitol, the Nevada Constitution in the Nevada State Library and Archives and a many other visual art galleries, performance venues, and places of significant historic interest.
The community’s other major institutions, namely Western Nevada College and Carson Tahoe Regional Healthcare are also engaged with the effort to add value and visibility to these significant institutions and support the educational, economic, and social needs of this community. Specifically we will address our communities civic and educational needs in relation to a changing downtown.
